Did you know your residential and commercial window film may qualify for a tax credit in 2013? We are pleased to announce the government has extended some important energy efficient tax credits for the 2012 and 2013 tax years. The incentives cover ten percent (10%) of the total cost of your window film materials, not to exceed $500. You can receive these tax incentives for energy efficient upgrades or changes made in 2012, or planned for 2013.
Make sure you discuss any energy efficient home improvements with your CPA or tax accountant to ensure you file correctly for these valuable incentives.
Take Advantage of Federal Tax Incentives for Qualifying Commercial and Residential Window Film Products
There are several reasons why window film qualifies for these exciting tax incentives.
Insulation Value. Windows and doors are the weakest link in your “home envelope.” Boosting insulation and minimizing air leaks are two ways to improve your home envelope’s seal. Residential and commercial window film are considered an energy efficient upgrade due to their insulating properties. Certain window films provide better insulation value than others so please let our customer service representatives know if you are interested in using window film products to increase your home’s insulation value.
Reducing Solar Heat Gain. Solar heat gain is created when direct sunlight enters your home through windows, skylights, or poorly insulated walls and roofs. During the warmer months, solar heat gain can significantly increase your HVAC cooling loads, which results in excessive energy consumption and utility costs. Reflective window film reduces your home’s solar heat gain by reflecting the sun’s rays back into the atmosphere. During the cooler months, it allows natural light to enter the home, minus UV exposure, and provides added insulation to keep the warm air inside where it belongs.
Make Sure Your Window Film Products Qualify for Government Tax Incentives
The government is very strict about which energy efficient products qualify for the tax incentives. If you are interested in using window film products that qualify for energy efficient tax credits, please let us know. It is important that we make sure the products we use meet the stringent qualifications based on the type of films used, where they are installed, the geographic climate zone, and the types of windows/frames they are being used on.
Daystar Window Tinting keeps the Qualifying Products Certification Statements, provided by our window film manufacturers on file. We can provide copies to you for your records. Your tax accountant may want to review them to ensure you are filing your taxes correctly.
Submit IRS Form 5695 With Your Income Tax Forms
In order to receive your tax credit, you will need to submit IRS form 5695 when you file your Income Tax Return. Make sure you save copies of our invoice(s), as well as the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement discussed above.
